Tonle Sap Lake plastics pick-up effort underway https://khmerpenghuothgroup.com/en/news/tonle-sap-lake-plastics-pick-up-effort-underway/ Mon, 01 Nov 2021 10:48:00 +0000 http://khmerpenghuothgroup.com/?post_type=news&p=1138 Tonle Sap Lake plastics pick-up effort underway
Sea Sophal, director of the NGO2 Bamboo Shoot Foundation, said this year’s campaign theme is “Green, Clean, Plastic-Free Tonle Sap”— and the project would continue to encourage communities to participate by cleaning up and disposing of plastic waste properly. Supplied

The NGO2 Bamboo Shoot Foundation in cooperation with the Cambodian Association of Travel Agents (CATA) launched an environmental clean-up campaign to pick up plastic waste along the Tonle Sap Lake in Siem Reap province in order to improve the beauty of the area and increase the amount of tourists visiting nearby communities.

The campaign, which will run from October 31 through December 31, began with the Me Chrey pagoda complex in Peam Ta’ou village of Puok district’s Keo Poa commune.

Sea Sophal, director of the NGO2 Bamboo Shoot Foundation, said this year’s campaign theme is “Green, Clean, Plastic-Free Tonle Sap”— and the project would continue to encourage communities to participate by cleaning up and disposing of plastic waste properly.

“With the Tonle Sap River starting to recede, for this year’s campaign we cooperated with the Ministry of Tourism and CATA in order to spread green tourism to the communities of Mechrey, Chong Kneas, Kampong Phluk, Kampong Khleang, Boeung Reang and all those who are downriver on the Siem Reap River,” he said.

He added that the campaign will raise awareness about disposing of plastic rubbish properly, especially to help increase tourism income in these communities.

“The important thing is not only to clean up plastics in the Tonle Sap Lake, but also to beautify it, and this project will help facilitate the livelihoods of the people, because they get milled rice and other materials for participating in the proper disposal of plastics,” he said.

“In order to support the plastic clean-up project, we will distribute milled rice to 360 families in the Mechrey community, and the Borey Peng Huoth has also donated nearly four tonnes of milled rice, canned fish and soy sauce,” he said, referring to the high-end gated community developer Peng Huoth Group based in Phnom Penh.

In addition to that, he said the NGO2 Bamboo Shoot Foundation also distributed sacks to people so they can use them for plastic rubbish.

“For this project, we distributed sacks to families so that they can keep plastics in them and we taught them to break the habit of throwing plastics into the water. Instead, they put them in sacks and pick up plastics when the water is receding or rising,” he said.

CATA president Chhay Sivlin said the campaign would help the Tonle Sap Lake become free of plastics to increase its value as a tourist attraction. She also asked that people take care of the environment and practice good sanitation habits to attract more domestic and international tourists to visit these communities.

“People should not throw plastic rubbish into the Tonle Sap Lake – they should place it properly and contribute to keeping the lake’s environment clean and plastic-free,” she said.

Sophal of the NGO2 Bamboo Shoot Foundation said the project has been carried out yearly since 2018.

“Between 20 and 30 tonnes of plastic has been picked up during each campaign, usually filling between 4,000 and 5,000 sacks and each campaign has been able to mobilise 5,000 to 6,000 community members to help with the clean-up,” he said.

Chef Luu Meng’s Almond Hospitality Group has scored the right to exclusively provide catering services to what will be the country’s largest convention hall.

The Cambodian master chef’s collection of restaurants have gained the adoration of foodies and casual diners around the world. Meng hails from a lineage of chefs for the royal court and is considered to be an ambassador for Cambodian cuisine.

He hosted the late Anthony Bourdain when the late food television icon visited Cambodia to document the country for one of his shows and has also taught Gordon Ramsey how to make fish amok.

His culinary empire includes Yi Sang, Kanji, Sevensea Seafood, Uy Uyteav, Kroeung Garden and World Dining, with the latter selected to supply meals to Peng Huoth Group’s upcoming PH Grand Hall.

Meng and Peng Huoth Group Chairman Okhna Thay Chea Huoth formalised their agreement on Monday.

Set to open next year, the convention centre will be part of Peng Huoth’s Gold Star Platinum project and able to accommodate up to 3,000 people. The centre will be built on more than 400-hectares of land on National Road 1 in Chbar Ampov district. Its ballroom will be able to host three different events concurrently. Perhaps most importantly for Meng and his team, the facility also includes a specially designed commercial kitchen with state-of-the-art equipment.

The project marks Peng Huoth’s first foray into the convention hall business. The firm already has a stellar reputation in real estate and commercial development. It expects the PH Convention Hall to be used for weddings, exhibitions, meetings and conferences.

“The Peng Huoth Group selected World Star Dining Ltd because of its established reputation in the food and beverage industry and especially because it is led by Luu Meng, who is not only the chief executive officer [CEO] and founder of Almond, but also one of Cambodia’s most celebrated chefs,” Patricia Ng, Almond Group’s deputy CEO told Khmer Times.

“With such a large hall that will cater to many different types of clients, it was important to the company that the firm that won the contract have the capacity to cater to any event. That requires a variety of cuisines for selection and a professional team that knows how to do the job,” Ng continued.

World Dining can cater to every taste and palate with menu offerings ranging from pizza to sweet and sour ribs.

Dishes from the rest of Almond’s portfolio will also be available and include Yi Sang’s roast duck, sushi from Kanji, Sevensea’s lobster sashimi and a variety of delicacies from Vietnamese Pho and Khmer noodles from Uy Kuyteav and Kroeung Garden.

Following an announcement by Borey Peng Huoth Group last year about building a new shopping centre named PH Diamond Mall, which is to be built in the Chak Angre Krom commune in 2019, the developers have officially announced a second, larger-scale mall project – the PH Eco Mall – which is estimated to be finished in 2021.

In comparison to PH Diamond Mall, which will span more than 2.4 hectares, PH Eco Mall will span over 6 hectares of land.

The new project will be built in the Grand Star Platinum Project within the Boeung Snor area of Borey Peng Huoth along National Road No 1, two kilometres from the Preah Monivong Bridge. The project is worth an estimated total of $200 million.

Oknha Thai Mengly, the CEO of Borey Peng Huoth Group, said the PH Eco Mall project will be a groundbreaking project and will provide both national and international customers with a premium shopping experience – especially considering the shopping mall is prioritising creating an eco-friendly and fresh environment for shoppers.

In addition, this shopping complex will incorporate the traditional Khmer style by integrating Khmer culture through popular and modern lifestyle amenities.

The mall will cover 26,800 square metres of land solely dedicated to the mall building and a further 90,000 square metres will be available for rent, as well as an abundance of parking space, which can hold up to 5,000 cars and motorcycles.

The PH Eco Mall will make the developer’s existing Grand Platinum Project become a more modern and enriching hub, adding to international schools that have operated since the mid-2017.

Property developer Peng Huoth Group has won a prestigious award for its Public Service Development project at the International Property Award in London this month, and outclassed several other world-class builders in the region.

Thre projects made it to the finals of the event and the Phnom Penh-based company’s Euro Ville Convention Hall project won the Public Service Architecture Award — thus emerging the winner in the Asia Pacific region.

The company’s other projects that made it to the final was “ Euro Ville Club House” in category of Public Service Architecture Asia Pacific and “Star Platinum Euro Ville” in the Architecture Multiple Residence Asia Pacific category.

The event was held at Savoy Hotel in London on December 3.

The company’s group CEO Thay Mengly said: “this is another new success for Peng Huoth Group that has made the national flag of Cambodia fly high and the group’s brand also stands high on the international stage in London.”

The participants at the event were winners from the respective regions around the world – Asia Pacific Property Awards, European Property Awards, Americas Property Awards, African Property Awards and Arabian Property Awards.

Peng Huoth represented Cambodia and competed with other participants from Asean and countries like Australia, China, India and Taiwan in the Asia Pacific region.

Thay said the success was largely due to the company’s efforts to offer the best quality, aesthetics and services to its customer which helped the company to become a leading player in the market.

“On behalf of the group, I would like to thank the management at all levels and to request them to continue their efforts to achieve the group’s goal of winning world’s best awards. Last but not least, Peng Huoth Group would like to thank all costumers for their continuous support and to have trust in us,” he said.

In addition, the company also won the best developer award for three consecutive years in the Cambodia Property Awards that was organised by Singapore-based Property Guru, Asia’s leading online property portal.

Peng Houth to invest $60 million in amusement park https://khmerpenghuothgroup.com/en/news/peng-houth-to-invest-60-million-in-amusement-park/ Fri, 08 Dec 2017 10:06:00 +0000 http://khmerpenghuothgroup.com/?post_type=news&p=1120 Peng Houth to invest $60 million in amusement park

In an effort to make their housing development project more attractive, the company behind Borey Peng Houth decided to put down another $60 million to create an international-standard amusement park along National Road 1.

Okhna Thai Mengly, CEO of the Peng Houth Group, said this week that the amusement park will cover 8 hectares and will also have a conference hall and wedding halls. The design will be inspired by European theme parks and will feature big trees and a walkway along the river. They plan to build three bridges connecting both sides of the river.

“Regarding the management of the area, we will separate it into many different styles of Europe in each area. For instance, area 1 will be Scottish and others will have German middle-age designs,” he said.

“Area 2 houses the designs from Holland and France, representing the rise of civilization. Area 3 has Italian river designs and other areas. Every building near the river has a multi-national restaurant, with food from Europe, China, Japan, Cambodia and others.

Visitors can enjoy the leisure and the tasty food.”

Thai Mengly went on to say that the project will be done creatively with an eye toward winning two international awards. The company is seeking to get the 5-star best park design award and the Cambodia Best Park Development award from the International Property Awards, which is based in England.

“The project will welcome Peng Houth’s residents and the public, who wish to enjoy leisure and healthy food,” Thai Mengly said. “The company is interested in bring the project to life in order to provide a clean, relaxing area as well as restaurants to the residents of Borey Peng Houth and the public. We want to contribute to Phnom Penh’s development by delivering a new, clean project for local and international tourists who have never been to Cambodia.”

The park will not have an entrance fee, he added.

Chhat Sivlin, head of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, said the park investment is a good thing because it can be considered a “new tourism destination to attract more local and international tourists” and create more attractions in Phnom Penh. Cambodia does not have that many resorts yet, she said.

“The private tourism sector has been requesting local and international investors to create more artificial resorts to attract more tourists,” she added.

Grace Rachny Fong, general manager of Century21 Cambodia, said she recently brought investors from Australia to visit this Borey. They were amazed by how well organized the infrastructure was.

“Investing in the park is a new strategy of the Borey’s owner in order to gain more attention. I believe in the future, the price of the houses in this Borey will continue to rise,” she said.
